Geraldine R. Edel
"Loving wife, mother and grandmother"
Olean -- Geraldine R. Edel formerly of 211 N. 14th Street, Olean, passed away Tuesday (January 5, 2010) at the Pines, Machias Campus.
Born October 5, 1923 in Olean, she was the daughter of James and Mary DiNapoli Rogers. On September 2, 1946 in St. John's Church in Olean, she married Loren Edel, who survives.
Mrs. Edel was a graduate of Olean High School. She had worked for many years as a hostess at the Olean House, where she had met many of her friends.
Mrs. Edel was a life long member of St. John's Church in Olean and had volunteered at the Olean General Hospital for several years. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed baking. She especially loved spending time with and taking care of her family and friends.
Surviving besides her husband are two sons Roger (Pamela) Edel of Williamsville, Stephen Edel of Houghton, four grandchildren Stephanie Edel, Mallory Edel, Matthew Edel, Amanda (Matt) Gold; 1 great-granddaughter Evelyn Gold; 1 sister Teresa Rogers; several nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her two sisters Caroline Donato, Rose Rogers; two brothers Nicholas Rogers, Anthony Rogers; and a daughter-in-law Christine Edel.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday (January 11, 2010) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. John's Church. Msgr. William Wangler will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
