Obituary of Richard Rich

Richard A. Rich Allegany, NY-Richard A. Rich of 3660 Buffalo Rd. died unexpectedly Wednesday (November 25, 2009) at his home. Born May 1, 1964 in Bradford, PA he was the son of Richard and Linda L. Fries Rich. Richie graduated from Olean High School and then served for four years with the US Navy. He later attended Jamestown Community College and completed coursework in criminal justice. He was a former employee of Cuba Cheese Co. for 24 years and more recently was employed as a welder for Dresser Rand Co. in Olean. He loved the outdoors including fishing, biking and hunting. He also enjoyed cooking and canning and will be remembered for his willingness to help others. He took pride in his husky dog "Scout". Surviving besides his mother Linda O'Brien of Olean are his maternal grandmother Sally (Fries) Gusler of Zephyr Hills, FL; the love of his life Jean O'Connor; 1 son Michael Rich of Bolivar; 2 daughters Tonya Rich and Ashley Rich of Bolivar; 1 brother Kevin (Tracy) Rich of Cuba; 1 sister Tammy Hammond, serving with the US Air Force in Fairbanks, Alaska; 1 stepbrother Jeff (Jill) O'Brien of Russell, PA; 1 stepsister Lisa (Rick) Gross of Jamestown, NY and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father and a stepfather Donald O'Brien. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Saturday from 2-5pm. Funeral services will be held Sunday (November 29, 2009) at 12:30pm in the funeral home. Fr. Richard Husted, OFM, will officiate. Full military honors will follow as accorded by members of the Allegany American Legion Ritual Team. Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery Veterans Field of Honor in Olean. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Allegany Fire Department or to any local Food Bank of the donor's choice.
