Obituary of Lyle Higley

Elm Grove, W. VA.-Lyle L. Higley, 88, of Elm Grove, formerly of Louisville, KY, and Limestone, N.Y. died Monday (October 26, 2009) in the Wheeling Hospital in Wheeling, W. VA.
Born September 28, 1921 in Rutledg, N.Y. he was the son of Theodore and Anna Bergholtz Higley. On April 9, 1942 in the First Presbyterian Church in Allegany he married Marjorie I. Pauley who survives.
Mr. Higley was a veteran of WWII having served with the US Army Blackhawks in the American, European and Asiatic Pacific Campaigns. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Victory Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a retired Maintenance Supervisor for the Corning Glass Works of Louisville, KY and was a member of the Elm Grove United Methodist Church and the V.F.W. in Bradford, PA.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, Lyle L. (Tami) Higley, Jr. of Elm Grove; two brothers, Theodore (Nevada) of Port Allegany, PA and Edward (Beverley) Higley of Coryville, PA; 5 grandchildren, Judy McCausland, Angela Higley, Michelle Higley, Christina Higley and Joseph Higley and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith K. Higley; 3 sisters Lillian Gee, Exzelta Nunn and Melvina Skinner and three brothers Robert Higley, Leo Higley and Richard Higley.
Friends were received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St., Wheeling where services were held today (Thursday, October 29, 2009) at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Bryan D. Carpenter officiating.
Visitation will continue at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday (October 31, 2009) at 10:00am in the funeral home. Rev. Kent Hill, pastor of Coryville (PA) Church of Faith, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery, with full military honors accorded by the ritual team of the Allegany American Legion.
