John D. Hesse
Vero Beach, FL-John D. Hesse of 750 12th St. Lot 89, a former longtime Allegany resident, died Wednesday (September 30, 2009) in the VNA Hospice House after a brief illness.
Born December 11, 1922 in Hoboken, NJ he was the son of Joseph and Lillian McDonald Hesse. On June 27, 1953 in St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany he married Elizabeth "Liz" Lennon who predeceased him May 28, 2000.
Mr. Hesse was a veteran of WWII having served with the US Coast Guard. After his military service he received his Bachelor's degree from Loyola University in New Orleans, LA and later received his Masters in Education from St. Bonaventure University.
He began teaching school in Mount Morris for two years and then began a 32 year career as an American History teacher for Allegany Central School, retiring in 1985. He retired to Vero Beach in 2003.
Mr. Hesse was a member of St. Helen's Parish in Vero Beach and a former member of St. Bonaventure Church. He was also a member of the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892 and a lifetime member of the Allegany Knights of Columbus Council 1220. He was an avid bicyclist and he enjoyed fishing, woodworking and playing cards.
Surviving are 6 children Mary (Gary) Sirianni of Olean, John Hesse, Joan Hesse and Bill Hesse, all of Vero Beach, FL, Michael (Phyllis) Hesse of Columbia, SC and Margaret (Thomas) Nuss of Allegany; 3 granddaughters Sarah Sirianni, Shannon Hesse and Bianca Hesse; 1 sister Joan Bailey of Arizona and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by 1 son Joseph Hesse in September 1990, 1 sister Lillian Burtis and 1 brother Joseph Hesse.
A memorial visitation will be held at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Tuesday from 5-8pm. Friends are invited to attend a memorial mass Wednesday (October 7, 2009) at 10:00am in St. Bonaventure Church. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the ritual team of the Allegany American Legion. Memorials may be made to the Allegany American Legion, the Allegany Fire Department or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Memorial Visitation is Tuesday October 6, 2009 from 5-8pm in the funeral home
<h3>Services</h3>
Wednesday October 7, 2009 Memorial Mass at 10:00am in St. Bonaventure Church.
<h3>Interment</h3>
Burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery with funeral luncheon to follow in Memorial Hall of church.
