Obituary of M. O'Dell

M. June O'Dell Olean, NY-M. June O'Dell, formerly of 500 E. Spring St. and also Allegany and Chipmonk died Wednesday (August 12, 2009) in The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Machias after a long illness. Born May 27, 1921 in Olean, NY she was the daughter of Raymond and Della Koehler Sweitzer. On August 26, 1961 in Olean she married Edward J. O'Dell who predeceased her April 9, 1987. Mrs. O'Dell was a 1939 graduate of Olean High School and had graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Buffalo in 1942. She retired from the former St. Francis Hospital in Olean after working 37 years as a surgical nurse. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and was active with the Altar and Rosary Society as well as the Martha's. She was a former member of St. John the Baptist Church in Vandalia. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the Sixty Plus Club in Allegany and the Allegany Historical Society. She was a longtime volunteer for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and had dedicated many years of service to the American Red Cross in Olean. Surviving are 1 brother Robert (Gail) Sweitzer of Olean; many nieces and nephews and 2 brothers-in-law William (Sue) O'Dell of Florida and David (Melissa) O'Dell of Allegany. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean this evening (Thursday) from 6-8pm and on Friday (August 14, 2009) from 9:30am until 10:30am at which time a prayer service will be held. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. Richard Husted, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
