Mary Jean Grace
"Devoted Wife, Mother and Grandmother"
Allegany, NY-Mary Jean Grace of 3467 Fortune Drive passed away peacefully Saturday (July 25, 2009) in her home.
Born August 21, 1925 at the family home in West Valley, NY she was the daughter of Leon and Margaret Burns Goodemote. On July 9, 1949 at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean she married Frederick G. Grace who predeceased her January 14, 2006.
Mrs. Grace was a 1943 graduate of Olean High School. Prior to her marriage she had worked as a nurse's aide at the former St. Francis Hospital in Olean and later for the dental office of Dr. Fairchild in Olean. In later years she had been employed as a hostess at the former Castle Restaurant.
She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany where she served as a Eucharistic minister, carried communion to the housebound parishioners, worked on the Bonafest fundraiser and served on the bereavement committee. Most central to her life was her love of family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving are 3 sons Geoff (Kay) Grace of Hamburg, Fred (Judy) Grace of Allegany and Tim (Kathy) Grace of Bemus Point; 3 daughters Janine (Tom) Mitchell of Hamburg, Michele (Walter) Nye of The Woodlands, TX and Margaret (Robert) Hines of Allegany; 11 grandchildren; 1 sister Annette (Jack) Wakeman of Orchard Park; 2 brothers Neil (Jodi) Goodemote of Marietta, GA and Jim (Linda) Goodemote of Allegany and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 2 brothers Denis Goodemote and Regis Goodemote and 1 sister Marjorie Ehman.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday (July 30, 2009) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home. A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am in the St. Bonaventure University Chapel. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Mt. Irenaeus Retreat or to the St. Elizabeth Motherhouse.
