John E. Dincher, Sr.
Allegany, NY—John E. Dincher, Sr. of 129 N. 5th St. died Thursday (July 10, 2008) in the Olean General Hospital after a long illness.
Born April 12, 1928 in Williamsport, PA he was the son of Albert P. and Cecelia M. Hiller Dincher. On June 9, 1956 in Williamsport, PA he married Mary Deisher who survives.
Mr. Dincher graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Williamsport and then served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1950 until 1952. In 1956 he graduated from St. Bonaventure University and was then employed by the former W. T. Grant Co. from 1956 until 1968. He became the manager of the St. Bonaventure University Bookstore, a position he held for 26 years, retiring in 1993.
Devoted to his catholic faith, he was a member of St. Bonaventure Church where he served as president of the former bingo committee. He was also a member of the Allegany Knights of Columbus Council 1220 and was a Past Grand Knight and Past District Deputy. He had most recently served as a member of the degree team for the Council. He was also a member of the Olean Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and served as Past Faithful Navigator.
Mr. Dincher was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 3428 in Muncy, PA and also of the NYS College Bookstore Association.
Surviving besides his wife are 1 son Joseph M. (Kim) Dincher of Odenton, MO; 1 daughter Mary Anne (Kevin) !McMahon of Corona, CA; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 3 sisters Sr. Ann Elizabeth Dincher, SCC and Sr. Celia Dincher, SCC, both of Bastress, PA and Cecelia Dincher of Williamsport, PA; 2 brothers Albert (Winifred) Dincher of El Paso, TX and Eugene (Rosemary) Dincher of Williamsport, PA and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son John E. Dincher, Jr. on August 30, 2002; 1 brother Paul Dincher in 1992 and 1 sister Barbara Schneider in 1995.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Monday (July 14, 2008) beginning with a prayer service at 11:00am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. Richard Husted, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Allegany Fire Department or to St. Bonaventure Church.
