Ivah Tomes
Olean – Ivah Tomes, a lifelong resident of the Olean area, passed away Tuesday (August 26, 2008) at the Pines Health and Rehab Center, in Olean.
Born June 17, 1910 in Allegany, she was one of nine children of Ernest and Frances Hitchcock Hamilton. On September 29, 1931, she married Paul Tomes, who predeceased her in 1994.
Mrs. Tomes was employed by several local establishments, including the Olean Tile Company. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and reading.
Surviving are three daughters Elise Webb of Amherst, Evelyn Dyche of Buffalo, Dorothy (David) Sucato of Pittsburgh, PA ; a daughter-in-law Evelyn Tomes of Olean; a devoted niece Hazel Dutton; a great-niece Diana Dutton; several grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; as well as great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband she was predeceased by a son Joseph Tomes, in July 2003, and her eight brothers and sisters.
Friends will be received at Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Road, Olean on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday (August 29, 2008) at 10am at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
Memorials if desired, may be made to Meals on Wheels c/o Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging.
