Dennis Herbert Stanley Burton Scarborough, England—Dennis Herbert Stanley Burton, formerly of Allegany, NY passed away Tuesday (January 16, 2007) in Scarborough Hospital, Scarborough, England. Born August 14, 1926 in London, England he was the son of James Herbert and Grace Violet Saunders Burton. On July 4, 1953 in Coventry, England he married Margaret “Rita” Herlihy who predeceased him February 16, 1994. Mr. Burton was educated at Lincoln Grammar School and Derby Technical College in England. He served an Engineering Apprenticeship at Rolls Royce Derby and worked on early gas turbine engine development for aircraft. He emigrated to the United States in 1953 to join Clark Brothers in Olean, NY where he was employed for 32 years. He retired from Dresser in 1986 and formed his own consulting company, “Ambritt Technology, Inc.”, primarily to serve the oil and gas industry. In 1989 he purchased the former Allegany Citizen Printing Plant in Allegany, where he continued to run his consulting company before retiring in 1994. He was active in the Allegany and Olean community, serving for a number of years on the finance committee of St. Bonaventure Church. In 1976 he was instrumental in the formation and organization of the Walsh Foundation, and served as president of the board for several years. He also served on the board of directors at Walsh high School and on the board of directors for !HomeCare & Hospice. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Vandalia. Mr. Burton had a great love for the game of golf and spent countless hours at the St. Bonaventure Golf Club in Allegany where he was a member. Surviving are 2 daughters Lynda (Charles) Dunn of Allegany and Lesley (Dr. Henry, Jr.) Iwinski, MD of Lexington, KY; 3 grandchildren Heather Claire Iwinski, Alyssa Margaret Iwinski and Henry John Iwinski, III. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by 2 sisters Sylvia Storey and Gladys Curtis. During his last years he spent most of his time in England in the company of his childhood sweetheart Beryl Crack who survives along with her two daughters, one son-in-law and 3 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in England for Mr. Burton’s family and friends at the Scarborough Crematorium on Friday January 19, 2007 following which the ashes will be transported to America. Friends will be received for a memorial visitation at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Thursday (January 25, 2007) from 4-6 & 7-9pm. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday (January 26, 2007) at 10:00am in St. John the Baptist Church in Vandalia. Rev. Barry Allaire, principal of Archbishop Walsh High School, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to !HomeCare and Hospice 1225 W. State St. Olean, NY 14760 or to the Walsh Foundation.
