Geraldine L. !McGinty “Our beloved ‘Mammie’” Allegany, NY—Geraldine L. !McGinty of 5251 S. Nine Mile Rd. died Wednesday (January 17, 2007) in Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY after a brief illness. Born May 21, 1938 in Allegany, NY she was the daughter of Charles B. and Marfisa A. Giardini. On November 1, 1958 at St. John the Baptist Church in Vandalia she married Robert G. !McGinty, Jr. who survives. Mrs. !McGinty was a 1955 graduate of Allegany High School and worked as a teller for the former First National Bank of Allegany. She was a champion bowler and woman of many talents and her love of crocheting shown through with the creation of many afghans, clothing, dolls and other keepsakes. Mrs. !McGinty’s love for her family was exceeded only by the love of her family for her. As a loving wife, adoring mother, grandmother and loyal friend, she will leave a void that can never be filled. Her compassion extended much further than the boundaries of her family. She volunteered her time and talents to many worthy causes for the American Legion, such as food for the needy and packages for veterans at VA hospitals. She was a driving force for the Post 892 Auxiliary having served a long time as treasurer. In 1992 and in 2001 she was awarded Outstanding Auxiliary Member of the Year. Surviving besides her husband are four daughters Carrie !McGinty of Rochester, Kathleen (Brian) Eaton of Allegany, and twins Kelly (Louis) Woodgie and Christie (Scott) Brook, both of Allegany; 6 grandchildren Joshua Eaton, Eric Eaton, Santana Questa, Dakota Woodgie, Shianne Woodgie and Kyle Brook; 5 brothers and sisters Helen (Curt) Fischer of Allegany, Robert Giardini of Allegany, Lillian (Edward) Giardini of Deerfield, FL, Josephine Burns of PA and Roxana (Robert) Boser of Allegany and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 2 brothers Raymond G. Giardini on November 1, 1959 and Charles B. Giardini, Jr. on April 22, 1947. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Sunday (January 21, 2007) from 2:00pm until 4:30pm at which time a funeral service will be held. Rev. Gregory Brennan, OFM, Chaplain of the Allegany Fire Department, will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Strong Memorial Hospital 601 Elmwood Avenue Rochester, NY 14642 or to the Allegany American Legion. 4350 State Rd. Allegany, NY 14706.
