Colleen Hogan Sheahan
Cuba, NY—Colleen Hogan Sheahan of 18 Maple St. died Saturday (March 10, 2007) in her home after a long illness.
Born January 9, 1933 in Olean, NY she was the daughter of Walter and Pearl R. Dougherty Hogan.
Ms. Sheahan was a graduate of Allegany Central School and had attended Jamestown Community College, St. Bonaventure University and SUNY at Geneseo. She was a resident of Olean most of her life and had resided in Cuba since 1992.
She first taught elementary education at St. John’s Parochial School and then served as the executive director of Cattaraugus County Project Head Start from 1971 until 1985. She then worked in research at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Upon returning to this area she taught migrant students in Allegany County and most recently worked for the Head Start program in Allegany County as well as for the Center for Family Unity in Allegany and Cattaraugus Counties in the Salamanca office until her retirement.
Surviving are 2 daughters Kathleen (Lawrence Smith) Sheahan Moriarty of Richland, NY and Maureen Sheahan of Olean; 3 grandchildren Marie (Nathan) Hayes, Eileen !McClure and Francis L. !McClure; 2 brothers Patrick Hogan of Lake Placid, FL and John (Marilyn) Hogan of Allegany; 1 sister-in-law Marla Hogan of Venus, FL, several nieces and nephews and her former husband John V. “Jake” Sheahan.
She was predeceased by a son Daniel Sheahan in 2005 and 2 brothers Daniel Hogan who died in infancy and Charles Dennis Hogan.
A Memorial visitation will be held at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. A memorial mass will be celebrated Wednesday (March 14, 2007) at 10:30am in St. John the Baptist Church in Vandalia. Fr. Richard Husted, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Limestone.
