Obituary of Victoria F. Washington

Victoria F. Washington “Loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother” Olean-- Victoria F. Washington of 360 Fountain Street, Olean, passed away peacefully Thursday April 5, 2007 at her home. Born October 4, 1919 in Olean she was the daughter of Edward R. and Ida Kuhn Cook. On July 16, 1938 in St. John’s Church she married George Washington, who predeceased her June 26, 1977. Mrs. Washington attended St. Mary’s Parochial School and resided in Olean for all of her life. She was employed for Olean Tile Co. and the former St. Joseph’s Manor for 14 years as a nurse’s aide. She was a member of St. John’s Church of Olean, and volunteered for the Head Start when it first began in Olean. She also enjoyed sitting on her porch at home and watching nature and the wildlife. Surviving are her 11 children John (Dorothy) Washington of Olean, Mary Trietley of Olean, George Washington of Olean, Joseph Washington of Hinsdale, Rose (Herman) Smith of Monroe NC, Peter (Christine) Washington of Olean, Michael (Marlene) Washington of Olean, Helen (Edward) !McCann of Allegany, Julia (James) Shaffer of Olean, Patricia (Thomas) Voss of Lockport, Theresa (James) Shufelt of Olean; 2 sisters Veronica (Stanley) Volz of Olean and Sr. Gerarda Cook, OSF of Allegany; 54 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 3 sisters Theresa Cook, Geraldine Hopkins and Virginia Drabant. Friends will be received at Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Road on Monday April 9, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (April 10, 2007) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30 am in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. John’s Church, Olean. Msgr. William Wangler Pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
