Obituary of Richard W. Samsel

Richard W. Samsel Olean, NY—Richard W. Samsel, formerly of the Olean House Apartments, and a four year resident of Eden Heights, died Wednesday (April 11, 2007) in the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, NY after a sudden illness. Born August 29, 1914 in Olean, NY he was the son of William and Catherine Shaw Samsel. Mr. Samsel was a graduate of Olean High School and had resided in Olean all of his life. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Force having served during WWII. He had been employed for many years as a ticket agent for Blue Bird Coach Lines in Olean, retiring in 1979. Mr. Samsel was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church and was a life member of the Olean Knights of Columbus Council #338. He was also a member of the Olean American Legion Post #530, the Olean Historical Society, the AARP and was a past chairman of the Olean House Tenants Association. Surviving are 3 sisters Virginia (Edwin) Ward, Catherine Burton and Elizabeth Bentley, all of Franklinville and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers-in-law James Burton and William Bentley. There will be no visitation. At Mr. Samsel’s request, private funeral services will be held at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Franklinville. Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
