Obituary of Margaret Yorke

Margaret Yorke “loving aunt and sister” Olean, NY—Margaret Yorke of 427 N. 1st St. died Thursday (April 12, 2007) in the Olean General Hospital after a short illness. Born October 31, 1911 in Olean, NY she was a daughter of Thomas and Neva Yared Yorke. Miss Yorke resided in Olean all of her life and was a graduate of Olean High School. She first worked for John Ash Cleaners and later as an executive secretary for Nabisco Co. for many years, retiring in 1979. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Maronite Rite Church and was active in its Women’s Auxiliary and its Altar Society. She was an avid card player and played in several bridge clubs, one of which was for over 60 years. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing scrabble. Surviving are 1 sister Edith Hamed of Olean and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She was predeceased by 4 sisters Nellie Simon, Sadie Harris, Mary Yorke and Rose Yorke and 1 brother Louis Yorke. There will be no visitation. Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Liturgy Saturday (April 14, 2007) at 10:00am in St. Joseph’s Maronite Rite Church. Rev. Joseph G. Akiki, administrator, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. Joseph’s Maronite Rite Church.
