Gertrude S. Woodgie Allegany, NY—Gertrude S. Woodgie, a former resident of Homer St. in Olean died Wednesday (May 16, 2007) at the home of her daughter on the Two Mile Rd. in Allegany. Born February 10, 1914 at 211 E. Connell St. in Olean she was the oldest of 12 children born to Joseph and Sophia Skala Kwiatkowski. On May 22, 1934 at the Transfiguration Church in Olean she married Joseph S. Woodgie who predeceased her February 10, 1989. Mrs. Woodgie first worked at the former Silk Mill in Olean and in the 1940’s she worked part time in the kitchen at the former Pickinninny Restaurant on Homer Street. She then raised a family at her residence on Homer St. until reentering the work force at Bush Brothers and later at Whelan’s Wholesale Candies in Olean, JC Penny Co., Inc. and then finishing her career at Bradner’s Department Store, retiring in 1975. She moved to her daughter’s home on the Two Mile Rd. in Allegany in 2002. She was a member of Transfiguration Church and its Altar Society and the Villa Maria Society. She also was a non active member of the Pulaski Club and the St. Stephen’s Club. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery work, cooking and listening to polish music. In her day she was an avid bowler. Surviving are 3 sons Stephen F. (Tootie) Woodgie of Hinsdale, Louis J. Woodgie of Olean and John F. Woodgie of Dickinson, TX; 1 daughter Mary Ann (Thomas) Faulkner of Olean; 10 grandchildren Teresa (Jeff) !McCaffrey, Linda (Tim) Rzepka, both of Olean, Patti (Brian) Williams of Port St. Lucie, FL, Susie (Bud) Mainhart of Mount Pleasant, PA, Cindy (Randy) Campbell of Derrick City, PA, Louis (Kelly) Woodgie of Allegany, Mary (Kelly) Karst of Hinsdale, Julie (Jim) Williams of Portville, Tim (Robin) Faulkner of Woodstock, GA and Pam (Chip) Malboeuf of Barboursville, VA; 19 great grandchildren; 4 sisters Cecilia Harrington, Mary Pirrello and Ann (Joseph) Kubiak, all of Olean and Theresa Leaskey of Pinehurst, NC; 1 brother Joseph (Lucy) Kwiatkowski of Henderson, NV and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 4 brothers Francis Kwiatkowski, John Kwiatkowski, Edward Kwiatkowski and Vincent Kwiatkowski; 2 sisters Sabina A. Nitsche and Lillian Driscoll and one grandson Michael J. Faulkner. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Friday from 2 until 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday (May 20, 2007) at 10:00am in Transfiguration Church. Rev. Jerome Stelmach, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Homecare and Hospice 1225 W. State St. Olean, NY 14760 or to the Allegany Fire Department.
