Frances A. Howard
Olean, NY—Frances A. Howard, formerly of 401 Alder Ct. died Wednesday (July 4, 2007) in The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Olean where she had resided since 1999.
Born October 25, 1921 in Portville, NY she was the daughter of David and Margaret Fisher Stoner, Sr. In 1959 in New York City she married I. Ray Howard, MD who predeceased her in 1967.
Mrs. Howard attended schools in Olean, Farmersville and Buffalo and was a graduate of Buffalo Bennett High School. In 1942 she entered the Nursing Cadet Training Program in New York City and upon graduation she continued a registered nursing career at Manhattan State Hospital for over 25 years, as well as working for other New York City hospitals.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Olean and the Olean Senior League. She was adored by all her family, especially her many nieces and nephews as well as the staff at The Pines.
Surviving are 2 sisters Ruth (Rolland) Bray of Bolivar and Rachel Gross of Portville; 2 brothers George Stoner of Lockport and Rev. John (Edith) Fisher of Little Valley and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 2 sisters E. Jean Lewis and Doris L. Getz and 2 brothers David F. Stoner, Jr. and Paul W. Stoner.
At Mrs. Howard’s request, there will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Burial will be next to her husband in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the First Baptist Church 133 S. Union St. Olean, NY 14760.
