Olean, NY—Mary E. Wursch of 113 N. 14th St. passed away Saturday (August 4, 2007) at St. Mary’s of Asbury Ridge in Erie, PA after a long battle with cancer.
Born March 21, 1919 in Chelsea, Massachusetts she was the daughter of Thomas and Alice Meaney Fleming. On May 2, 1945 at St. Bonaventure University Chapel she married John “Sarge” Wursch who predeceased her October 4, 1983.
Mrs. Wursch lived in Olean for over 50 years and served as an Army Nurse in WWII. She worked as a nurse at the former St. Francis Hospital, the Olean General Hospital and the former Allegany Nursing Home.
She was a life member of the D.A.V., a member of the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892, the Hospital Retirees Club, the Olean Senior Center and the RSVP program.
Surviving are 1 son Paul (Laurie) Wursch of Erie, PA; 1 brother Francis (Phyllis) Fleming of Rochester and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 4 sisters Rita Scanlon, Ann Czekai, Alice Hanbach and Ellen Hanback.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (August 8, 2007) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Olean Senior League.
