Harriet Elizabeth Butler
"Enjoyed her family"
Allegany, NY- Harriet Elizabeth Butler, formerly of N. 7th St. in Allegany and most recently of Eden Heights in Olean died Monday (November 18, 2002) inThe Waters of Allegany Health Care Facility.
Born January 14, 1921 in Olean, NY she was the daughter of Edwin Stuart and Shirley Hull Wakefield. On May 29, 1939 in Hinsdale, NY she married Mark Edward Butler who died February 26, 1976.
Mrs. Butler attended Olean High School and graduated from Hinsdale Central School. She also graduated from Westbrook Commercial Academy. She had been employed for several medical doctors in the area, later working as an EKG technician at Olean General Hospital. She then worked for several years as a medical secretary for the Olean Medical Group, retiring in 1986.
She was a 50- year member of Christ United Methodist Church.
Surviving are 2 daughters Joanne (Paul) Caracciolo of Fredericksburg, Va. and Nancy (Cyril) Borer of Allegany; 4 grandchildren Scott (Courtney) Schafer of Amherst, NY, Lisa (David) Butchello of Williamsburg, Va., Mark (Akiko) Borer of Ota, Japan and Matthew Borer of Washington, DC; 5 great grandchildren Dominic Butchello, Gia Butchello, Joseph Butchello, Erin Schafer and Eric Schafer and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother Edwin Wakefield.
There will be no visitation. A private graveside service will be held Wednesday (November 20, 2002) at St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Rev. James Vacco, OFM of St. Bonaventure University will officiate.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Allegany Fire Department or to the Allegany-Limestone School Libraries.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
