Charles V. Tyler
“former Allegany and Humphrey resident”
Santa Clarita, CA—Charles V. Tyler, a long time resident of Allegany and Humphrey died Friday (September 7, 2007) at the Henry Mayo Hospital in Santa Clarita, CA after suffering a debilitating stroke.
Born April 17, 1918 on First Street in Allegany, NY he was the son of Clarence S. and Bertha A. Sweitzer Tyler. On November 24, 1938 he married Charlotte V. Williams who predeceased him July 19, 2003. They had been married for 64 years.
Mr. Tyler had been living with his son Larry and Rita Tyler of Santa Clarita, CA for the past four years. He and his wife had lived in Sylmar, CA, the Four Mile Rd. in Allegany and had spent over 20 years living in Humphrey, NY. He had been a driver for Jack Warner of Warner Brothers in Burbank, CA; drove an 18 wheeler semi tractor-trailer for Western Milk Truck of Pacoima, CA; was a heavy winder at Acme Electric Co. of Allegany and had been a heavy equipment operator for many years for Cattaraugus County, having retired in 1982.
He was a longtime member of the Five Mile Baptist Church in Allegany and was a founding member of the Allegany Baptist Church. He worked in youth ministry with his wife for many years in the 1960’s and 1970’s. He was a godly man who loved the Lord and enjoyed reading the Scriptures.
Surviving are his children Nancy (Francis) Peterson of Steamburg, Charles R. Tyler of Humphrey, Larry (Rita) Tyler of Santa Clarita, CA and Garry (Pam) Tyler of San Paulo, Brazil; 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by his brothers Jay Tyler and Rex Tyler and his sisters Guinevere Simonds and Virginia !McNeil.
All friends and relatives are welcome to join the family at the Five Mile Cemetery in Allegany at 12 noon Saturday (September 15, 2007). Rev. James Mitchell, pastor of the Five Mile Baptist Church will preside over the graveside service.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
