Obituary of Mary A. Monkhouse

Mary A. Monkhouse “loving mother, grandmother and aunt” Allegany—Mary A. Monkhouse of 114 Clarence St. passed away Tuesday (October 2, 2007) at the Olean General Hospital after a sudden illness. Born February 22, 1930 in Chipmonk, NY she was the daughter of Sebastian and Felicia Quattrone Fortuna. On June 18, 1960 at St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany she married Carl E. Monkhouse, Jr. who predeceased her on May 23, 2000. Mrs. Monkhouse was a graduate of Allegany High School and was a lifelong resident of Allegany. She was employed by Cutlery Associates in Allegany as a secretary for many years. She enjoyed crafts and loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, Lady Knights of Allegany, Olean General Hospital Auxiliary and the 60 Plus Club of Allegany. Surviving are one son Carl (Edie) Monkhouse, III of Allegany; 1 daughter Cynthia (Ronald) Hughes of Olean; 6 grandchildren; 1 brother Charles Fortuna of Allegany and 1 sister Anna Scacchi of Allegany. Besides her husband she was predeceased by 3 brothers Pete Fortuna, Joseph Fortuna, and Frank Fortuna; a sister Theresa Fortuna and a grandson Craig Everett Monkhouse. Friends will be received at Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Road Olean on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home beginning at 9:30 am on Saturday (October 6, 2007) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Bonaventure Church. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials if desired can be made to Home Care and Hospice 1225 W. State Street Olean, NY or to the charity of the donor’s choice
