Abraham H. “Buck” Meyers
“committed family man”
Olean, NY—Abraham H. “Buck” Meyers of 31 Hamilton Ave., recently of the Absolut of Allegany died Monday (October 15, 2007) in the Olean General Hospital after a long illness.
Born September 14, 1925 in Buffalo, NY he was the son of Nathan and Clara Kopin Meyers. He was married to Veronika Kriener who predeceased him February 9, 2004.
Mr. Meyers resided in Buffalo for many years prior to moving to Olean in 1958. He was a veteran of WWII having served with the US Army. He worked for over 40 years along with his brother at the former Olean Steel Sales and Service Co. in Olean prior to his retirement.
He was a quiet man who in his earlier years enjoyed photography. He also enjoyed writing poetry and reading. He was of a peaceful nature and appreciated nature and animals as well as sharing his time and insights with children.
Surviving are 4 sons Phillip (Joanne) Meyers of Chicago, IL, Reinhart (Bobbie) Meyers of Deferiet, NY, David Meyers of Olean and Bruce (Jennifer) Meyers of Olean; 1 daughter Lenora (Barry) Nelson of Essex Junction, VT; 10 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 3 sisters Bernardine Rabin of Plainview, NY, Bernice (Paul) Bussell of Kenmore and Elise (Seymour) Linder of Catonsville, MD and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by 4 brothers David Meyers, Yale Meyers, Alex Meyers and Morris Meyers and 3 sisters Esther Meyers, Jenny Schenkel and Dorothy Margolis.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Friday (October 19, 2007) from 11:00am until 1:00pm at which time a funeral service will be held. Rev. Dayle Keefer, pastor of the Fluvanna Community Church in Jamestown, will officiate. Burial, with full military honors, will be at St. Bonaventure Cemetery. A reception will immediately follow at the St. Bonaventure Clubhouse.
