Edward P. Muniga, Sr. “Caring, loving patriarch” Olean, NY—Edward P. Muniga, Sr. of 413 E. Connell St. died Monday (October 22, 2007) in the Olean General Hospital after a long illness. Born June 29, 1916 in Olean, NY he was the son of John and Anna Kosinski Muniga. On June 29, 1940 at Transfiguration Church in Olean he married Victoria K. Pustawski who predeceased him on September 22, 2000. Mr. Muniga was a lifelong resident of Olean and worked on his father’s dairy farm in Humphrey and later worked for his father’s butcher shop on N. Union St. He then worked for the former O’Connell Plumbing Co. and the former Daystrom Furniture Co. From 1945 until his retirement in 1988 he was employed by Dresser Clark Co. He was a member of Transfiguration Church, the NRA and was a charter member and former Union Steward for the United Steelworkers Union Local 4601. He belonged to the former Rogerville Rod and Gun Club in Olean and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed gardening and growing garlic to sell. He loved the sports of boxing, football and baseball and he appreciated the friendship of animals. Surviving are 2 sons Edward (Judy) Muniga of Olean and James (Debra) Muniga of Huntington, IN; 6 grandchildren Victoria (Tracy) Veno, Edward (Cheryl) Muniga, Michael Muniga, Amy Muniga, Joseph Muniga and Timothy Muniga; 2 step grandchildren Gregory Bryant and Jeffery Bryant; 9 great grandchildren and 1 step great grandson; 2 sisters-in-law Helen Gepinger of Olean and Betty Pustawski of Chicago, IL and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by 4 sisters Betty !McCabe, Anna Muniga and Irene Plarr. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Friday (October 26, 2007) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Transfiguration Church. Rev. Jerry Stelmach, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the SPCA 2944 Olean Hinsdale Rd. Olean, NY 14760.
