Obituary of James A. Mays

James A. “Bert” Mays Allegany, NY—James A. “Bert” Mays of 113 N. 3rd St. died Wednesday (December 5, 2007) in the VA Hospital in Buffalo, NY. Born April 4, 1938 in Elmira, NY he was the son of James Mays and Ferne Greene Mays. Mr. Mays was a 1957 graduate of Andover Central School. He entered the US Army where he served from 1958 until his discharge in 1961. He had been stationed in Manheim, Germany. He was most recently employed as a bartender for the Olean Elk’s Lodge for seven years and later the Allegany American Legion for the past nine years. He was a member of the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892, the Olean Elk’s Lodge #491, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #616 and the Pulaski Club. Surviving are 1 son Marc Mays of Miami Beach, FL and many close friends in the Allegany area. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Sunday (December 9, 2007) from 1-4pm. Funeral and committal services will follow at 4:00pm. Rev. Gerard leFeber will officiate. Burial will be in Hebron Cemetery, Coudersport, PA. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
