Obituary of Christine A. Edel

Christine A. Edel “beloved wife and mother” Houghton, NY--Christine A. Edel of 9848 Fancher Heights died peacefully Thursday (March 2, 2006) in her home in the presence of her loving husband. Born April 3, 1950 in Olean, NY she was the daughter of Walter and Dorothy Gembala Stavish. On April 5, 1975 at St. Bonaventure University Chapel in Allegany she married Stephen T. Edel who survives. Mrs. Edel was a 1968 graduate of Olean High School. She and her family lived in Texas for 27 years, having moved back to New York 3 years ago. Since that time she had been a great blessing to many people in the area, especially to her mother-in-law and father-in-law. She was a valued employee wherever she worked because of her dependability and initiative. The jobs that she enjoyed the most were being the secretary for the senior pastor of Shady Grove Church and the financial secretary for Shady Grove Christian Academy, both located in Grand Prairie, Texas. During the last few months of her life, Mrs. Edel was grateful to be able to help prepare lunch for the students at Houghton Academy, where her children attend. Mrs. Edel enjoyed traveling with her family and particularly had fond memories of Hawaii, the Ukraine, and Budapest, Hungary. She also loved animals and especially the family dog, Chloe. Mrs. Edel made a commitment to Jesus Christ in 1974, and her faith continued to grow throughout her life. Because of this, she showed great courage during a long and difficult illness and she was at peace about going to Heaven. Mrs. Edel was known for her kindness and concern for people and she will be missed greatly by her husband, children, family and friends. Surviving besides her husband are 1 son Matthew Edel at home; 1 daughter Amanda Edel at home; 1 sister Karen (Gary) Young of Olean; 3 brothers Tim (Gerri) Stavish of The Villages, FL, Patrick (Debbie) Stavish of Olean and Mark (Chris) Stavish of Olean; 5 nieces and 3 nephews. Her parents predeceased her. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Monday (March 6, 2006) at 11:00am at the Christ United Methodist Church 633 Linwood Ave. Olean, NY. Rev. Wes Oden, pastor of the Houghton Wesleyan Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean, NY Memorials may be made to Homecare and Hospice 118 N.
