Obituary of Frances S. O'Malley

Frances Slattery O'Malley Frances Slattery O'Malley, 104, a resident of Olean since 1979, died Tuesday (August 13, 2002) in The Pines Health Care Center in Olean. Born April 16, 1898 in Crafton, Pa. she was the daughter of Francis and Cecelia Slattery. On September 22, 1925 in Pittsburgh, Pa. she married Hubert Raymond O'Malley who predeceased her in 1961. Mrs. O'Malley was a graduate of Crafton, Pa. High School and she worked for Standard Oil Co. in Pittsburgh prior to her marriage. She then resided in West Hartford, Ct. from 1925 until 1937 and in Stratford, Ct. until 1979. She had been a resident of Olean since 1979 where she kept her own apartment until moving to Eden Heights in 1991. While in Stratford, Mrs. O'Malley was active in the Senior League and was also a member of the Lady Knights of Columbus in Stratford. Surviving are 2 daughters Margaret "Peg" (Richard) Bothner of Olean and Patricia (Ernie) Meier of Culpeper, Va.; 2 sons Richard H. (Meg) O'Malley of Palo Alto, Ca. and Peter O'Malley of Charleston, SC; 17 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 1 brother Gerard Slattery. Friends will be received on Thursday from 7-9pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. where a prayer service will be held Friday (August 16, 2002) at 9:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am in St. John's Roman Catholic Church. Msgr William Wangler, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. A vigil wake service will be held Thursday evening in the funeral home 1t 8:45pm. Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. John's Church.
