Eugene "Gene" F. Cory "Loving father and grandfather" Eugene "Gene" Franklin Cory, 78, formerly of North 18th Street in Olean passed away March 22, 2006, in Rochester, New York, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Laura; his parents, Edwin T. and Dora Reynolds Cory; and his sister, Jessie Dahill. He is survived by his daughters; Marsha (Jerry) Fromm, of Penfield, NY, Pamela (Barry) Pemsler of Miami, FL, Tina (Art) Chipouras of Rochester, New York, and Kathleen (Cliff) Coppersmith of Williamsport, PA and nine grandchildren. Gene was born July 5th, 1927, in Coryville, PA to Edwin T. and Dora Reynolds Cory, with his grandmother Isabelle Otto assisting in his birth. He was an adventurous youngster always enjoying the outdoors. As a child he loved to ice skate, ski and swim in the pond and in later years he enjoyed fishing, hunting and dancing. Gene attended schools in Farmer's Valley and Smethport and served in the US Army at Fort Mead, MD at the end of World War II. Upon returning, he worked in the oil fields of !McKean County. In his own words, he married the "prettiest woman he'd ever seen", Laura Augostini on August 7th, 1948. They were married for 52 years. Gene worked for 31 years at Clark Brothers (later known as Dresser Industries) and retired in 1983. He was a member of Saint Mary of the Angels Roman Catholic Church and served as an usher for many years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. On North 18th Street Gene and Laura were known as great neighbors always willing to help friends. Gene often cleared neighbors' sidewalks with his snowblower. He was a talented carpenter who made special toys for his daughters and later made desks and benches for his grandchildren. Gene and Laura made friends and family feel loved and cherished, especially their four sons-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. Gene will always be remembered for his quick and joyous laughter, his kind and easy going nature and the great pride he took in his family. Our beloved father, Papa, friend and relative will be truly missed. Friends may call at Casey, Halwig, and Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd.
