Allegany, NY-- Margaret F. Karl of 2341 Five Mile Rd. died Friday (April 28, 2006) in Cuba Memorial Hospital.
Born January 18, 1907 in Allegany, NY she was the daughter of Frank and Christina Gerringer Martiny. On February 9, 1926 she married Arthur Karl who died September 16, 1959.
Mrs. Karl was a 1925 graduate of Allegany High School and had resided in Allegany all of her life. She had been employed for Acme Electric Co. in Allegany for 15 years and had served as an officer in their Credit Union.
She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church where she was elected to its first Church Parish Council. She also belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society, was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and was a former member of the Ladies Catholic Benevolent Association. In 1977 she was a recipient of the “St. Joseph the Worker” award, presented to her by Bishop Edward Head in Buffalo.
Mrs. Karl was a 50 year member of the Allegany Grange and had been a volunteer for Meals on Wheels since 1979. She was also a member of the Allegany Sixty Plus Club.
Surviving are one daughter Marion Haggerty of Allegany; 10 grandchildren Sharon Piscatelli, David Lemon, Alfred Lemon, Edward Lemon, William Lemon, Judy Potter, Karen Sweeney, Charles Haggerty, John Haggerty and Mary Beaver; 20 great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; one sister Catherine Geise of Allegany and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a daughter Maxine Lemon in 1992; a grandson Thomas Lemon on April 27, 2003; 2 sisters Leona Mamott and Clara Bridon and 2 brothers Charles Martiny and Edward Martiny.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Monday (May 1, 2006) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Bonaventure Church. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Bonaventure Church, the Allegany Public Library, to Meals on Wheels or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
