“Devoted wife and mother”
Allegany, NY—!LanDona P. First of 3974 Colonial Village, Lot 70 died Monday (August 28, 2006) in Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, NY from injuries sustained in a fire in her home.
Born April 28, 1939 in Bluffton, Indiana she was the daughter of Cecil I Broom and Ruth L. Cocklin Broom Olwin. On September 15, 1957 at the former Church of the Brethren in Lancaster, IN she married Bill B. First who predeceased her April 29, 2005.
Mrs. First was raised in Indiana and graduated from Jefferson High School in Warren, IN, moving to Alexandria, VA in 1965. She received her nursing degree and worked there for several years as an LPN. In 1979 she and her husband moved to Allegany where she provided care for him until his death.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Olean. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting and was always there to help anyone in need.
Surviving are 3 children Jeffrey First of Springhill, FL, Anne First of Allegany and Steven First of Allegany; 5 grandchildren;5 brothers and sisters Elaine Broom, Larry Broom, both of Huntington, IN, David Broom of Andrews, IN, Patricia (James) Manning of Warren, IN and Lois Leist of Ft. Wayne, IN and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a sister !JoAnn Brown in 2006.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean tonight from 7-9pm. Graveside services will be held Friday (September 1, 2006) at 3:00pm in Allegany Cemetery. Rev. Dan !McDowell, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Olean, will officiate. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, the Allegany Fire Department or to the American Diabetes Association 315 Alberta Drive Suite 102 Amherst, NY 14226.
