Nancy T. Martin “Wonderful Mom” Allegany, NY—Nancy T. Martin of 3199 Cranberry Rd. passed away Sunday (December 10, 1006) in Roswell Park Memorial Cancer Institute after a long illness. Born March 24, 1920 in Salamanca, NY she was the daughter of Sebastian and Grace Spano Pecora. On August 25, 1947 at St. Patrick’s Church in Salamanca she married Joseph H. Martin who predeceased her May 24, 1998. Mrs. Martin graduated from Salamanca High School and also the Hearst Private Business College in Buffalo. During WWII she volunteered for the American Red Cross at various hospitals in Buffalo and was also a USO volunteer there. She lived in Queens and also Long Island where she worked as a legal secretary prior to moving to Olean in 1959. She and her husband co-owned Martin Studio of Photography prior to her retirement. Mrs. Martin was very devoted to her family and her faith. She enjoyed cooking, canning, music and reading. She was very active socially, playing bridge, golf, and attending local cultural events. She particularly enjoyed the fellowship she found with friends at the YMCA. Surviving are 4 children Debbie Strong of Rochester, Tom (Kathy) Martin of Allegany, Cathy (Scott) Smith of Cassadaga and Bob (Joani) Martin of Hawthorn Woods, IL; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 2 sisters Anne Truxal of Punxsutawney, PA and Josephine Pecora of Buffalo and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 3 sisters Catherine Mallare, Rose Pecora and Margaret Ricotta. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd. Olean Tuesday from 6-8pm. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday (December 13, 2006) at 11:00am at the St. Bonaventure University Chapel. Fr. Richard C. Flaherty, OFM, will be the celebrant. All are invited to attend a reception at the St. Bonaventure Clubhouse immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute PO Box 631 Buffalo, NY 14240 or to Mt. Irenaeus C/O Franciscan Mountain Retreat St. Bonaventure, NY 14778.
