James W. Martin "loving husband, father and grandfather, and avid truck driver" Allegany, NY-- James W. Martin of 4115 S. Nine Mile Rd. died Friday (January 14, 2005) shortly after arrival at Olean General Hospital. Born April 18, 1930 in Pike, NY he was the son of George L. and Hazel Robinson Martin. On July 3, 1964 in Fredonia, NY he married Alice F. Silleman who survives. Mr. Martin attended school in Arcade and had formerly resided in Franklinville and Cuba. He had been a resident of Allegany for the past three years. He worked for the B. R. !DeWitt Concrete Co. in Pavilion and Olean for thirty five years and for the Wayne Paving and Gravel Co. in Shinglehouse, PA for the past six years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cuba and the Allegany Sixty Plus Club. He was an avid card player, and he enjoyed his years of truck driving. Surviving besides his wife are 1 daughter Sonja (Harold) Matthews of Sierra Vista, AZ; 1 son Kenneth (Julie) Martin of Coudersport, PA; 4 granddaughters; 3 step grandsons; 3 great grandchildren; 1 sister Doris Shepard of Machias and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Florence Nelson and a brother Robert Martin. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Tuesday (January 18, 2005) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Rev. Larry Poelma, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Cuba, will officiate. Burial will be in Markhams Cemetery, South Dayton, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association or to the Allegany Fire Department.
