Douglas A. Shaffer "loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather" Allegany, NY-- Douglas A. Shaffer of 3251 Five Mile Road died Sunday (January 16, 2005) in Tri-County Memorial Hospital, Gowanda after a long illness. Born April 25, 1928 in Allegany, NY he was the son of Andrew and Doris Hitchcock Shaffer. On October 16, 1948 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Allegany he married Marion Skiver who survives. Mr. Shaffer was a lifelong resident of Allegany and worked as a dairy farmer until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and served on its Board of Directors. He was also a life member of the Eagle Rod and Gun Club of Allegany. He volunteered as a community man for Agway, Inc. in Allegany and served on its Board of Directors for ten years. He loved his family and enjoyed his work and hunting. Surviving besides his wife of 56 years are 1 daughter Marsha (Tom) Hartnett of Allegany; 2 sons James D. Shaffer and Donald A. Shaffer, both of Allegany; 5 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; 1 sister !JoAnn (Jerry) Spring of Allegany and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Donald A. Shaffer. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Tuesday from 6-9pm only. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (January 19, 2005) at 10:00am in the funeral home. Rev. Gerald leFeber, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of WNY 2805 Wehrle Dr.- Suite 6 Williamsville, NY 14221, the Allegany Fire Department or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
