Josephine Ball Brooks Olean, NY-- Josephine Ball Brooks of 104 Willow St. died Tuesday (February 15, 2005) in Olean, NY after a short illness. Born in Olean, NY she was the daughter of George and Gertrude Dolan Ball. Mrs. Brooks was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy and a 1935 graduate of Olean High School. She worked as an assistant sales manager for the former Darling Shop in Olean from 1935 until 1944 and was then a homemaker. On August 10, 1942 at the former St. Bonaventure University Chapel she married James H. Brooks. She was a member of St. John’s Church in Olean. Surviving besides her husband are 4 children Janice Veno of Olean, Mark J. Brooks of Mamaroneck, NY, Daniel R. Brooks of New York, NY and Mary Jo Brooks of Johnson City, NY; 4 grandchildren Michele Wagner, Matthew Veno, Michael Veno and Marcus Veno; 6 great grandchildren; a sister Elizabeth Cryan of Buffalo; 2 cousins Margaret Petz and Anne Connelly, both of Rochester and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Catherine Ball Utecht in 1994 and her brother, J. Richard Ball in 1991. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday (February 19, 2005) beginning with a prayer service at 10:30am in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am in St. John’s Church. Msgr. William Wangler, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
