Obituary of Jean L. Woods Wang

Jean Lorene Woods Wang Olean, NY-- Jean Lorene Woods Wang of 2093 Haskell Rd. passed away Friday (February 18, 2005) in the Olean General Hospital. Born March 11, 1926 in Sebeka, MN she was the daughter of Wendell and Ruth Kleven Woods. On June 28, 1945 in Seattle, WA she married Wallace W. Wang, Sr. who was stationed there in the Navy and who survives. Mrs. Wang attended the Art Institute of Minneapolis and graduated from Brainerd High School, MN in 1942. She was a graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Nursing and first worked as a cadet nurse during WWII. In 1952 she moved with her family to New Kensington, PA and to Portville, NY in 1966. Jean was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Olean and was a founding member of its Quilters Club, which made quilts for fire and flood victims. She also belonged to the Society of Mayflower Descendants and was proud of her six Pilgrim ancestors. Jean will be remembered by family and friends as an artist who created many beautiful quilts, afghans, sweaters, dolls, puppets and bridal gowns and hundreds of crocheted snowflakes. Her living work of art is her perennial flower garden admired each year by passersby on the Haskell. Surviving besides her husband are 2 sons Wallace Wang, Jr. of Olean and Bruce (Judy) Wang of Rochester; 1 daughter Beverlee Wang of Key West, FL; 1 granddaughter Emily Wang-Jadlowski (David) Brunke of Oberlin, OH and a niece and a nephew. She was predeceased by 1 brother Donald E. Woods and a sister Patricia A. Woods. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held Saturday (February 26, 2005) at 1:30pm in Bethany Lutheran Church, Olean. Rev. Donald Andersson, pastor, will officiate. A visitation and lunch will follow the service. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
