Obituary of Sophia L. Wolf

Sophia L. Wolf Allegany, NY– Sophia L. Wolf a two year resident of The Waters of Salamanca, formerly of the Back Five Mile in Allegany died Wednesday (March 2, 2005) in the Olean General Hospital after a long illness. Born September 9, 1923 in Allegany, NY she was the daughter of Eugene and Irene Lippert Foster. On July 7, 1948 in Bradford, PA she married George M. Wolf who predeceased her December 2, 1980. Mrs. Wolf was a resident of Allegany most of her life, having worked along with her husband on the family farm on the Back Five Mile Rd. She was a member and past president of the Allegany Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary and was also a member of the Allegany American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, knitting sweaters, and was known for making her delicious clam chowder. Surviving are 2 daughters Arlene (Joseph) Rado of Allegany and Sandra (Eugene) Gerringer of Binghamton; Mark Wolf of Allegany whom she raised as a son since he was a baby; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 4 brothers Joseph (Mary Jane) Foster of Nebraska, Robert (Sandra) Foster, twins Ed (Nancy) Foster and Carl (Gloria) Foster, both of Allegany; 3 sisters Irene Pierce of Allegany, Patricia Foster of Salamanca and Shirley (Bill) Papasergi of Allegany and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 5 brothers Herman Foster, Lawrence Foster, Eugene Foster, Stephen Foster and Kenneth Foster and 1 sister Kathleen Scull. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean today from 2-4 & 7-9pm and Saturday (March 5, 2005) from 1 until 2pm at which time funeral services will be held. Rev. Gregory Brennan, OFM, chaplain of the Allegany Fire Department, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be to the Allegany Fire Department.
