Obituary of Margaret G. Pitcher

MARGARET G. PITCHER Allegany – Margaret G. Pitcher of North Second Street died peacefully, with her family by her side on Monday March 7, 2005 at the Olean General Hospital. Born in Tioga Center, NY on April 25, 1916 she was a daughter of M. Delos and Ella Maude Wheaton Goodrich. On June 15, 1942 in Tioga Center she married Derwood W. Pitcher who predeceased her July 24, 1992. Margaret began teaching in 1936 in a one-room schoolhouse in Apalachin, NY and retired from Allegany Central Schools in 1980. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Olean and a former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Allegany where she was an elder, participated in the bible group and taught Sunday School. She was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers and also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She loved her family and enjoyed reading and birds. She is survived by sons David (!LesLea) Pitcher of Apalachin, NY, Norman (Susan) Pitcher of Bloomsburg, PA; daughters Priscilla (George) Powley of Russell, PA, Zeruah Pitcher of Allegany and Nancy Pitcher of Alexandria, VA; grandchildren Peter, Karen, Dan, Matt, Jeff, Kristin, Laura and Gopi Pitcher; great grandchildren Dylan, Wyatt, John and Morgan; sister Mabel Lena Robinson of Owego, NY; three close friends Tammy Reddish, Cathy Walters and Steve Yehl. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by brothers and sisters Hiram Goodrich, Zeruah Potter, Irving Goodrich, Wilfred Goodrich and Harriette Lee. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Rd., Olean on Thursday March 10, 2005 from 3-5 and 7-9. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday (March 11) at 1:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Olean. Rev. Gary Larson, pastor will officiate with the Rev. Dan !McKee, pastor of the Allegany Presbyterian Church assisting. Burial and committal will follow at Allegany Cemetery, Allegany. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Olean, the First Presbyterian Church of Allegany, Allegany Fire Department, Allegany Public Library or Westminster Presbyterian Church, Alexandria, VA.
