Mary G. Thurber "100 year old beloved grandmother" Allegany, NY-- Mary G. Thurber, 100, of 100 William St. died peacefully Thursday (March 17, 2005) in her daughter’s home where she had resided for the past ten years. Born March 24, 1904 in Siesec, Yugoslavia she was the daughter of John L. and Yanna A. Lepesic Landrich. On March 27, 1923 in Cuba, NY she married William C. Thurber who predeceased her October 8, 1965. Mrs. Thurber came from Yugoslavia to the United States in 1905 and was pleased that her name was placed on the Wall of Honor at Ellis Island. She attended school in Cuba and was a resident there most of her life prior to moving to Allegany. She had been employed at Acme Electric Co. in Cuba from 1946 until her retirement May 29, 1970. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and she enjoyed taking care of her family and cooking. Surviving are a daughter Elvira (Robert) Bush of Allegany; 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; 2 sisters Barbara Elofson of Gowanda and Lucielle Day of Bolivar; 1 brother John Landrich of Williamsville and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a son Howard Thurber in September 1993; a granddaughter Brenda Anne Bush in 1991; 5 brothers Francis Landrich, William Landrich, Joseph Landrich, Lawrence Landrich and Lucius Landrich and 3 sisters Kathryn Bump, Agnes Cummins and Anna Coyle. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean today from 2-4 & 7-9pm and on Saturday (March 19, 2005) from 11:00am until 12:30pm. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home at 12:30pm followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00pm in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. Richard Husted, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Homecare and Hospice 1225 W. State St. Olean, NY 14760 or to the American Diabetes Association 315 Alberta Dr. Amherst, NY 14226.
