"Loving family man"
Allegany, NY-- Wayne E. "Willie" Wilcox of 2079 Eldorado Dr. died peacefully Monday (May 2, 2005) in his home.
Born August 18, 1936 in Olean, NY he was the son of Howard and Magdalene Hirliman Wilcox. On June 4, 1960 at St. Bernard’s Church in Bradford, PA he married Judith L. "Judi" Cummiskey who predeceased him December 19, 2000.
Mr. Wilcox was a graduate of Olean High School and had served with the Army National Guard for several years. He first worked for Leo's grocery store and later for the former !VanderHorst Corp in Olean. For the last number of years he had worked as a grocer for the Service Store Park and Shop. He also enjoyed working independently as a house painter for many years.
He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and the Allegany American Legion. His hobbies included playing cards, golfing, deer hunting and gardening. He also enjoyed fireworks and collecting golf balls.
Surviving are 2 sons Steve (Betty Jo) Wilcox of Limestone and Mark (Michelle) Wilcox of Allegany; 3 grandchildren Joseph Wilcox, SPC Justin Wilcox and Bria Wilcox and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by 3 brothers Donald G. Wilcox, Melvin Wilcox and Bernard Wilcox and a sister Mary Lou Wilcox.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Thursday and Friday evening from 6-8pm only. A prayer service will be held Saturday (May 7, 2005) at 10:00am in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. Richard Husted, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Allegany American Legion.
