William Charles Simon “Loving father and grandfather” Olean, NY– William Charles Simon of 401 Alder St. Apt. 22 died Tuesday (May 3, 2005) in The Pines Healthcare Center, Olean. Born August 1, 1926 in Emporium, PA he was the son of Percy and Genevieve Ray Simon. On December 24, 1973 he married Loretta Faye Stahlman who predeceased him December 16, 1998. Mr. Simon attended Olean schools and he had resided in Olean most of his life. He was a WWII veteran having served in the US Army Air Force and later the US Army from 1945 until 1948. He worked as a construction worker and was a member of the Labor Local 621-Building and Heavy and Highway Construction. In the Olean area he helped build the Olean Center Mall as well as the Olean Municipal Building. He also worked on the Southern Tier Expressway. Mr. Simon had just received a gold membership card from the Labor’s Union for being a fifty year member. Surviving are 2 daughters Melody Kerr and Jane (Edward) Lowe, both of Olean; 3 grandchildren Eric Kerr, William Simon and Steve Lowe; 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by 3 brothers Wayne Simon, John Ray and Percy Simon and 5 sisters Esther Shaw, Helen Barth, Gertrude Reid and Rachel Maine and Jane !McBride. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Friday (May 6, 2005) from 7 until 8:30pm at which time funeral services will be held. Burial will be Saturday morning in Mt. View Cemetery Veterans Field of Honor. Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
