Obituary of Orest J. Tommasino

Dr. Orest J. Tommasino Olean – Dr. Orest J. Tommasino of Olean, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA died Monday August 22, 2005 at the Olean General Hospital. Born on June 6, 1926 in Pittsburgh, PA he was a son of Frank and Grace Vairo Tommasino. On November 16, 1962 in New York City he married Colette Wilson who survives. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served during WWII. Dr. Tommasino graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1948 and Pitt Medical School in 1952. He worked as a general practitioner and anesthesiologist at numerous Pittsburgh hospitals and at the St. Francis Hospital in Olean until his retirement in 1990. Dr. Tommasino enjoyed opera, literature and art. He especially loved spending time with his family. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and generosity. In addition to his wife, a resident of the Pines in Olean, he is survived by a daughter Sarah (Paul) Knieser of Olean; two sons Francis (Ann) Tommasino of Newport News, VA and John Tommasino who is currently hospitalized in Elmira, NY; seven beloved grandchildren, Francis and Christine Tommasino of Newport News, VA and Nigel, Abraham, Sarah "Missy", Ruby and Jack Knieser, all of Olean; three sisters Alice Vennare, Yolanda (Felix) Vennare and Olga (Bill) Pantoni, all of Pittsburgh, a brother in law John Roland Wilson, Jr. of Pittsburgh, PA and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a his dear nephew John Felix Vennare, a sister Marie Angela Garrett and two infant brothers, Alfred and Manuel. Friends will be received today (Wednesday August 24, 2005) at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Rd., Olean from 2-4 and 7-9. A service will be conducted at 9:00 PM. Pastor Bryan Garrett, pastor of the Olean Community Evangelical Church will officiate. Burial will be at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. Memorials may be made to the Olean Community Evangelical Church, c/o Pastor Bryan Garrett, 9650 Midhill Terrace, Portville, NY 14770.
