"Beloved Mother and Grandmother"
Allegany – Rita L. Salmonson of Fifth Street, Allegany died Friday October 14, 2005 shortly after arrival at the Olean General Hospital. Born in Allegany on October 29, 1908 she was a daughter of William and Mary Homer Gerringer. On November 6, 1930 she married C. Arnold Salmonson who predeceased her on March 10, 1987.
Mrs. Salmonson was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Allegany where she was active with many organizations including the Ladies Society, the Lutheran Club, Alter Guild, Release Time teacher and the Lutheran Woman's Missionary League. She enjoyed square dancing and playing cards. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons Robert (Barbara) Salmonson and Richard (Patricia) Salmonson, both of Allegany, a daughter Elsie (Wayne) Schultz of Akron, NY; fifteen grandchildren including Kathryn Salmonson with whom she resided; many great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by four brothers Homer Gerringer, Claire Gerringer, Elmer Gerringer and Walter Gerringer; two sisters Frances Forman and Mary Gerringer.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Rd., Olean on Sunday October 16, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday (Oct. 17) at 3:00 PM. Rev. Gerard leFeber, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, Allegany will officiate. Committal services and burial will follow at Allegany Cemetery, Allegany. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 36 N. 4th Street, Allegany, NY 14706 or to the Allegany Fire Department, N. 1st Street, Allegany, NY 14706.
