Obituary of Lucille Furness Stetz

Lucille Furness Stetz “Loving Friend to All” Olean, NY-- Lucille Furness Stetz of 3140 Cranberry Rd. died Saturday (October 15, 2005) at the home of her niece in Fredonia after a long illness. Born March 22, 1924 in Hornell, NY she was the daughter of Ralph and Anna Gernandt Furness. On August 18, 1965 she married Peter Prince who died in 1971. On March 27, 1976 she married Joseph Stetz who predeceased her April 13, 1992. Mrs. Stetz was a 1942 graduate of Tenbroeck Academy in Franklinville and resided in Olean most of her life. She had been employed for Dresser Clark Co. for 39 years, retiring as head receptionist in 1989. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Olean. She was an avid golfer and bowler and was a member of the Birch Run Country Club and the St. Bonaventure Golf Course. She was a founding member of the Red Hat Putters, an Olean Chapter of the Red Hat Society where she was currently serving as Queen Mother. Surviving are 2 stepsons Paul (Suzy) Stetz of Salamanca and Daniel (Tina) Stetz of Olean; 1 step daughter Mary Jo (Paul) Brockel of Olean; 3 step grandchildren Michael Stetz and Allison Stetz of Olean and Olivia Stetz of Salamanca; 1 brother Harold “Nick” (Billie) Furness of Pompano Beach, FL; 3 nieces Sally (Mark) Piazza of Fredonia, Kathy (Jeremy) Samucha of Fredonia and Lorie (Randy) Fabritius of Sinclairville; 2 nephews Thomas Furness of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Richard Furness of Tampa, FL and several great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her husbands she was predeceased by 4 brothers Ralph Furness, Harvey Furness, Edward Furness and Kenneth Furness. At Mrs. Stetz’s request, there will be no visitation. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held Saturday (October 22, 2005) at 11:00am in the First Presbyterian Church in Olean. Rev. Gary Larson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Franklinville. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation PO Box 650309 Dallas, TX 75265 or to the First Presbyterian Church. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
