Obituary of Thomas L. Bailey

Thomas L. Bailey “One Tough Ex-Marine” Olean, NY—Thomas L. Bailey, 57, of 542 Prospect Avenue, Olean, NY died peacefully in his home on Monday (December 2, 2002) after a long illness. Born July 29, 1945 in Olean he was the son of William G. and F. Jane Carlson Bailey. On February 6, 1975 in Olean he married Ann L. !McClure who survives. Mr. Bailey was a lifelong resident of Olean, having graduated from Olean High School. He had proudly served for several years with the US Marine Corps. He had been employed for 30 years as an installer and repairman for the former NY Telephone Co., now Verizon, retiring in 1999 due to illness. As a member of Local #1115 Communication Workers of America he served as Union Steward for many years, vice president from 1988-1990 and also served 3 consecutive terms as president from 1990 to 1998. He was a member of the Olean Masonic Lodge 252 F & AM and was a longtime member of the YMCA. He also was a volunteer for several years for the City of Olean Auxiliary Patrol. Surviving besides his wife are his parents of Olean; 3 daughters Karen Miles of Olean, Rebecca Bailey of Fairfax, Va. and Barbra Bailey at home; 1 son Donald T. (Lisa Kavanagh) Bailey of Olean; 1 grandson Kasey Miles; 1 sister Kathy (James) Clark of Pittsboro, NC and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 1 grandson Kody W. Miles in 1993 and 1 brother Donald G. Bailey in 1974. Friends may gather with the family at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home in Olean on Friday (December 5, 2002) from 6 until 7:30pm at which time a service of celebration will take place until 8:00pm. The family encourages that memorials, if desired, be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Elm & Carlton Streets Buffalo, NY 14263 or to Homecare and Hospice 1225 W. State St. Olean, NY 14760.
