Jay D. Spring Olean – Jay D. Spring of 124 West Green Street died unexpectedly on Wednesday December 14, 2005 at his residence. Born in Allegany, NY on September 1, 1942 he was a son of John and Iva Snyder Spring. He was a 1960 graduate of Allegany High School. Mr. Spring served in the United States Army from 1962 through 1965 at Ft. Myer, Arlington, VA. Jay was employed at AVX in Olean from 1965 until his retirement on September 6, 2003. He was an accomplished wood craftsman and enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, boating and camping. Jay was a volunteer for Interfaith Caregivers. His family and friends will remember him for his giving spirit. He is survived by two sons David J. Spring and Daniel J. Spring, both of Olean; one sister Katherine Elizabeth Nicosia of Zephyr Hills FL; three brothers John Spring of Ft. Pierce FL, Jim Spring of San Diego CA and Jerry Spring of Allegany; his best friend and fishing partner Ray Haberly of Portville NY. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters Suzanne Getchell and Merlyn Wetzel and two brothers Joseph Spring and Judson Spring. Friends will be received today (Friday December 16, 2005) from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Rd., Olean. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday (Dec. 17) at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Rev. Paul Cornelius will officiate. Burial and committal services will follow at Allegany Cemetery, Allegany, NY. Memorials may be made to Interfaith Caregivers, 124 North Union Street, Olean, NY 14760
