David M. Franz
Olean – David M. Franz of 142 South 26th Street died today, Wednesday December 21, 2005 at the Bradford Regional Medical Center, Bradford, PA. Born in Corning, NY on April 11, 1931 he was a son of Milton and Margaret Turbrack Franz.
Mr. Franz attended Penn State University and later graduated from the University of Buffalo, School of Law. Upon graduation from college, he served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. Following his military service, he returned to Olean where he practiced law for 50 years. He was an attorney with Shane & !McCarthy, later becoming a partner of Shane & Franz, and most recently practiced independently as David Franz, Attorney at Law.
Mr. Franz attended and was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church and St. Bonaventure Church. He was a 50 year member of the New York State Bar Association. He enjoyed golf, woodworking, working in his yard and loved to walk his dog Tara. He was also a self taught guitar player. Mr. Franz was currently researching the Bible and religion and was writing a book based on the findings of his research.
He is survived by five daughters Julia (Rod) Hairston of Leesburg VA, Sally (Tom) Zamiara of Rochester NY, Holly Clark of Arnold MD, Amy (Paul) !McKeown of Olean and Heather (Scott) Piatt of Cuba NY; three sons Shane Franz of New York City NY, Mark Franz of Allegany NY and Matthew (Kristin) Franz of Bradford PA. eighteen grandchildren; two brothers Shane (Barbara) Franz of Ft. Myers FL and Noel Franz of Cleveland OH and one sister Maureen Call of Ft. Myers FL.
Friends will be received today Thursday December 22, 2005 at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Rd., Olean from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at the funeral home at 11:00 AM. Deacon Donald Radlinski will officiate. Committal services and burial will follow at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, NY. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association.
