John A. Holtz Olean – John A. Holtz of Aspen Tower and formerly of Cranberry Road died Thursday December 22, 2005 at the Olean General Hospital. Born in Olean on March 27, 1923 he was a son of Charles G. and Laura V. Miller Holtz. On June 17, 1945 in Allegany he married Avilda "Tillie" Lee who survives. Mr. Holtz was a graduate of Allegany High School. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. He was employed at Clark Brothers, Daystrom Furniture and St. Bonaventure Parish and parochial school prior to his retirement. John was a member of the Allegany American Legion and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter Eva (Dean) Travis of Portville, NY; a son John E. (Kathy) Holtz of Sodus, NY; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother Floyd (Kathryn) Holtz of Olean; four sisters Ruth Bennett of Brockway PA, Vivian (Richard) Layton of Olean, Norma Holtz of Allegany and Carol (Edwin) Constant of Edison, NJ; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters Doris Holtz and Rita Bennett and three brothers Edward Holtz, Thomas Holtz and Charles Holtz. There will be no public visitations. A memorial service will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Salvation Army or to Oprah's Angel Network. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Rd., Olean, NY.
