David A. Barton, Sr.
Allegany, NY David A. Barton, Sr., of 105 N. 2nd St., passed away Friday (April 5, 2024) at the Olean General Hospital after a recent illness.
Born July 14, 1941 in Olean, he was the son of Alvin L. and Eleanor J. Donor Barton. On December 21, 1961 in Olean, he married Barbara Murphy who predeceased him September 21, 2011.
Dave was a 1959 graduate of Allegany High School. He enlisted in the US Marines where he served active duty from 1959 to 1963. He then was a reservist for 2 years.
He worked as a machinist for Westinghouse in Buffalo for 25 years. Locally, he worked in real estate for Coldwell Bankers, and also for Micro Training, both in Olean until his retirement.
Dave was a member of the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892 where he served on the ritual team and was a recent past commander. He was a former Grand Exalted Ruler of the Olean Elks Lodge 491 and was honored as Elk of the Year. He was also a member of the Street Master’s Car Club and served as its treasurer.
He enjoyed woodworking, and operating HO trains at his home, as well as rebuilding vintage cars.
He leaves behind 3 sons David A. (Karen Welch) Barton, Jr. of Allegany, Robert C. (Karen Frungillo) Barton of Allegany, and Ricky A. (Tanya Camp) Barton of Berryville, VA; 5 grandchildren Cody (Shelby) Barton, Nicole Barton, Julie (Seth) Barton, Bradley Barton, and Drake Barton; 2 great grandchildren Lincoln Barton and Cayson Barton; 1 brother Donald (Anne) Barton of Goose Creek, SC, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a brother Jerry Barton.
Visitation will be at the Allegany American Legion, 4350 Route 417, Allegany on Thursday (April 11, 2014) from 2-5pm. A funeral service will begin at 5pm. Burial will be at a later date at Allegany Cemetery.
