Obituary of Fred E. Sittig

Fred E. Sittig Allegany, NY-- Frederick E. Sittig of Allegany died peacefully Wednesday (March 3, 2004) in his home. Born March 31, 1917 in Oil City, PA he was the son of Karl and Alice Esenwein Sittig. He was married to Isabelle G. Heath who predeceased him in 1986. He later married Ida Fay Currie on October 28, 1990 in Allegany who survives. Mr. Sittig was educated in Oil City, PA, Chesbro Seminary (now Roberts Wesleyan College in N. Chili, NY) and also Bryant Stratton Business College in Buffalo. He moved to Allegany in 1940. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served as a chaplain’s assistant with the 41st Evacuation Hospital in the European theater during WWII. He had been employed by Potter Lumber Co. in Allegany and he also operated Sittig Oil Co. for 25 years prior to his retirement. He enjoyed camping and traveling and he was an excellent woodworker and cabinet maker. Surviving are his wife of Erie, PA; 2 sons Loren K. (Maureen) Sittig of Austin, TX and Ronald A. (Georgie) Sittig of Churchville, NY; 5 grandchildren Scott (Julia) Sittig of Rochester, Lynette (Josef) Sykora of Wilmore, KY, Ryan K. Sittig of Austin, TX, Matthew (Jillian) Sinasky of North Chili and Megan Sinasky of State College, PA; 3 great grandchildren; 1 brother William K. (Ruth) Sittig of N. Chili and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Saturday (March 6, 2004) from 1pm until 4pm at which time funeral and committal services will be held. Rev. Nelson Grimm of Byron, NY will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the First Free Methodist Church in Allegany or to the J.A.A.R.S. branch of Wycliff Bible Translators in Waxhaw, NC.
