Obituary of Edwin F. Becker

Edwin F. Becker Allegany, NY Edwin F. Becker, 85, of 157 W. Main St., passed away peacefully Wednesday (June 21, 2023) at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born October 20, 1937, in Northampton, PA, he was the son of Wilfred and Minnie Kulp Becker. On June 2, 1962, in Slatington, PA he married Ann L. White who predeceased him October 1, 2019. Ed was a graduate of Allegany Central School. As a young man he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was also the recipient of the “For God and County” award. In September 1960, he was inducted into the US Army. He operated a dairy farm in Allegany, and he also worked at the former Market Basket store and the former A & P store. For years he and his wife operated a ceramic shop in their home. Ed was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Olean. While a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Allegany, he taught Sunday School for 22 years and he and his wife ran a youth group for 16 years. He enjoyed gardening and operated a flower and vegetable stand on the Five Mile Road in Allegany until recent years. He was known to donate flowers to the church altar, local nursing home residents, and those that were ill. Christmas was a special time of year for Ed, and he annually set up a marvelous, hand painted Christmas village and train set in his home as well as a tree filled with Old World ornaments. He is survived by 3 children Lori (David) Bowers of Slatington, PA, Timothy Becker of Phoenix, AZ, and Susan Feldbauer of Great Valley; 7 grandchildren, Sonya (Timothy) O’Donnell, Matthew Chandler, Alisha (Fred) Swass, Tiffany Bowers, Heather Becker, Catherine Becker, and Kelsey Feldbauer; 3 great granddaughters, Paisley Horn, Adalynn Swass, and Olivia Swass; 1 brother Donald (Virginia) Becker of Olean; 1 sister Patricia (Lynn) Sopher of Limestone; a son-in-law Dave Shubert of Allegany, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a daughter Robin Chandler on July 4, 2020, a granddaughter Moriah Chandler on February 9, 1988; 3 sisters Catherine Renner, Anna White, and Betty Heffelfinger, and 2 brothers Wilfred Becker and Robert Becker. At Ed’s request, visitation and services will not be observed. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 419 Laurens St., Olean, NY 14760, or to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 36 North 4th St., Allegany, NY 14706. Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
