Elizabeth Mary “Bettie” Faso Galena, OH Elizabeth Mary “Bettie” Faso, most recently from Galena, died on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, OH, surrounded by family. She and her family called Yorkshire, NY, their home. She was 100 years old. Bettie was born October 18, 1922 in Mexia, TX, to the late Francis John Dougherty and Catherine Mary (Lawler) Dougherty. Her family moved back to Olean in the 1930s where Elizabeth attended St. Mary’s Academic School and Olean High School. After graduating from High School, Bettie enrolled in the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Buffalo, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1943. She worked at Olean General Hospital for two years before enrolling at the University of Buffalo to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Public Health Nursing, specialty as School Nurse/Teacher. She worked for several years as a public health nurse in Cattaraugus County, as well as a school nurse and teacher in Franklinville. Bettie retired from the Pioneer Central School System (Arcade Elementary School) having worked as a schoolteacher first for special needs students and then first graders. Bettie’s family has always been her greatest joy, as she blessed six generations of family with her abundant love. She was rightfully proud of her education, her career as a nurse and teacher, of her Catholic faith, reaching the age of 100, and of being 100% Irish, according to Ancestry.com. She never stopped loving Western New York, even after moving to Central Ohio to live with her daughter Teresa. Bettie is survived by her children - Teresa (Phil) Roblee of Galena, OH, Elizabeth (Steve) Guyton of Highland Heights, OH, and Margaret (Mike) Jackson of Corinth, TX; Grandchildren - Lance Hevizy, Elizabeth (Joe) Hevizy, Corey Roblee, Christopher (Kirsten) Roblee, Clayton (Jenn) Roblee, Alexander Guyton, Aaron (Rebecca) Jackson, Nathan Jackson, and Colin Jackson; and Great-Grandchildren - Caitlyn Hevizy, Lilah Roblee, Miles Roblee, Clayton Roblee II, Connor Jackson, Charlotte Jackson, and Gwendolen Jackson. She is also survived by nieces and nephews. Bettie was preceded in death by husband, Anthony Carl Faso, daughter, Mary Catherine Faso, and brothers, John F. (Jack) Dougherty and Donald W. Dougherty in addition to her parents. Friends may call on Friday, January 13 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Rd., Olean. Funeral services will be held Saturday (January 14, 2023) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, 119 West Henley Street, Olean. Burial will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date (TBD) for her Central Ohio friends.
