Obituary of William Slavinski

William M. Slavinski, 90, of 3666 Fiove Mile Rd., passed away Tuesday (August 9, 2022) at his home. Born November 7, 1931 in Olean, he was the son of John and Elizabeth Valley Slavinski. William attended the former Transfiguration School in Olean and later graduated from Portville Central School. He entered military service by first serving as a Merchant Marine from 1951 to 1954. He then enlisted in the US Army in 1954. While serving in England, he met his future wife Jill Greenfield whom he married on October 27, 1956. He received an honorable discharge in 1957. William worked for the former Worthmore Feed Mill in Olean prior to working for Stroehmann Bakery in 1968. He was a diesel mechanic for the company until his retirement in 1995. He enjoyed hunting and shooting and was a member of both the Olean Rod and Gun Club and the NRA. He leaves behind his wife Jill; his children Susan Crane (Dale Howell) of Arizona, Lisa Slavinski of Florida, and Mark (Claire) Slavinski of Franklinville; 4 grandchildren Michael Crane, Sara Crane, Anna Slavinski and William “Billy” Slavinski; 1 great grandson Matthew Crane; 1 sister, Sister Catherine of Dominican Nuns and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter Wendy Slavinski; 6 sisters Florence, Frances, Theresa, Helen, Celia and Carol, and 1 brother Frank Slavinski. The family will receive friends on Monday (August 15, 2022) from 4-7pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean. A prayer service will begin at 7pm in the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
